How the Metal Weight Calculator Formula Works

The calculator computes the volume of the metal piece based on its shape and dimensions, then multiplies by the density to find the weight. The formulas follow standard geometry and material science principles.

Formula: Volume = Shape-specific calculation

For round bars: Volume = π × (diameter/2)² × length

For square bars: Volume = side × side × length

For rectangular bars: Volume = width × height × length

For sheets/plates: Volume = width × thickness × length

For tubes/pipes: Volume = π × (outer_radius² − inner_radius²) × length

All dimensions are converted to millimeters for volume calculation, then converted to cubic centimeters (1 cm³ = 1000 mm³).

Formula: Weight = Volume × Density

Weight in grams = volume (cm³) × density (g/cm³). Results are also displayed in kilograms and pounds.

  • Weight with waste (5%) = 24.7 × 1.05 = 25.94 kg
