How much waste should I add to my brick order?

Why is my wall area less than length times height?
Your wall area may be less than length times height because the calculator subtracts the openings area (doors, windows, vents) from the gross wall area. This “net” wall area more accurately represents the actual brickwork surface. If you have no openings, the net and gross areas are identical.
