How the Engine Horsepower Calculator Formula Works

The calculator applies two different formulas depending on which method you select. Each formula is derived from fundamental physics and has been validated by decades of real-world testing.

Method 1: Torque & RPM (Crankshaft Horsepower):

Formula: HP = (Torque × RPM) / 5252

Formula: HP = (Weight / ET³) × 5.825

This empirical formula was developed from thousands of actual drag strip runs. It estimates the power required to move a vehicle of a given weight through a quarter-mile in a given time. The constant 5.825 has been refined over decades of drag racing data.
